My Life’s Work

In Spring of 2020, inspired by an otherwise uninspiring pandemic, Sarah and Nathaniel came together to create My Life’s Work.

Our goal with this podcast is twofold. First, we want to expand ours and other teenagers’ perspective on the types of careers and career paths that exist. We recognize that many children are only exposed to a small range of careers—the careers of their parents, neighbors, and friends. We want to help combat this blindspot and to broaden all of our perspectives.

Secondly, in this difficult time, it is especially hard to stay involved in our community. My Life’s Work allows all of us to get to know our neighbors a little better, even when we may not be interacting frequently anymore. We publish a profile of our interviewee to go along with each podcast in the Hill Rag. Check it out!

Nathaniel

Nathaniel is a dedicated 12th-grade student at BASIS Washington DC. He strives to fill his free time with a wide variety of passions. He is a pianist and cellist—and enjoys playing anything from classical to fiddle music. He also is fascinated with current events and obsessively listens to BBC podcasts and leads his school Model UN Club. He loves going for runs around DC, checking out the local protests, and keeping an eye on all the happenings.

Sarah

A Washingtonian through and through, Sarah attends as many lectures, concerts and political events as she can while spending her junior year at George Washington University through the GW Early College Program. Sarah loves tutoring younger students, reading about revolutionary women, and going for walks around the Capitol with Nathaniel. Sidelined from her passion for cello by a stroke in December 2019, Sarah spent this year relearning to walk, reading Toni Morrison, and getting over her dislike of talking on the phone in order to spend much of 2020 phone banking to get out the vote.
